The History

The York Entrepreneurs Society was established in 2004 by budding young entrepreneur George Hudson. He imagined a society which would inspire entrepreneurial interest, develop student’s theory and skills along with engaging students in first-hand experience in business and enterprise. These original ideas formed the basis of the Societies' aims and mission statement.

Since its original foundation the society has gone from strength to strength with each passing year. Now famous for its flagship ‘The York Apprentice’ event based on the popular BBC2 TV show, the society has hosted other events such as The Business, the Jeff Banks Challenge, The Blueprint and The Trader. In recent years the society has expanded its role to areas outside the University and taken on several consultancy jobs, including one for the Merchant Adventures Hall in York. Despite continuing expansion the society stills kept its original aims central to its operation and hosts regular entrepreneurial events for students.

As of 2009 the society boasts the largest student membership lists at the University of York and with its strong affiliation with the White Rose CETLE and continuing links with Yorkshire Forward the society is in excellent shape to continue its original aims as well as expanding its role within and outside the University.
