17th November 2009 Global Start Up Challenge York Entrepreneur Society Committee member Louise Flower has secured a place in a global enterprise competition involving 8 entrepreneurs from up and down the country. The Global Start Up Challenge is run in conjunction with Alibaba, the world's largest online meeting place for Entrepreneurs and SME's.

The Pitch 2009 has started today, 8 teams are currently taking part in a week long challenge that will see them develop a business plan for a new commercial outlet on the New Heslington East Campus.

It’s a worldwide movement of entrepreneurial people, with millions unleashing their enterprising talents and turning their ideas into reality. 2nd November 2009 YES launch latest event, 'The Pitch 2009' The York Entrepreneurs Society have launched their latest event, called The Pitch 2009 the event will test students to their creative limits. Set to take place in Global Enterprise Week (Week 6, 16th Nov-19th Nov) the event will see a number of teams made of three persons each do battle for a prize fund of £600!

York is proud to have one of the oldest and best University Enterprise Societies in the United Kingdom, after recently attaining an International Enterprise Award at the IEEC 2009 in Edinburgh. The YES have an ambitious plan of events and projects lined up for the upcoming year, entry to all of these is free and there is no membership fee to the YES. The YES are traditionally an events based society, in this sense we organise and host business events for students to enter (free of charge), in which they will tackle a series of challenges against other teams for large cash prizes. Since it's establishment in 2004 the YES have awarded over £4500 to York students! To find out more about the YES click here. The York Entrepreneurs Society attended the NACUE North Network Training Day on October the 9th in the Manchester branch of the E-Office. Several committee members were present including Henry Coyle (President), Louise Flower (External Enterprise Director) and the NACUE North Regional Chair Matthew Freckelton. Also present was Scott Murphy, Chloe Milne and Katie Laing. The agenda for the training was an ambitious selection of workshops, speakers and networking sessions. Speakers included Paolo Barone who works as an Academic Evangelist for Microsoft and Rajeeb Dey, founder and director of ‘Enternships’. The YES made many new contacts and subsequently several plans are being developed with other enterprise societies around the region to allow more opportunities for students to take part in YES events and activities.

To find out more about the IEEC click here. 30th June 2009 Nouse Top 50 The York Entrepreneurs Society former president has been recognised for his achievements in enterprise and entrepreneurial endeavour by the campus newspaper ‘Nouse’ in their ‘nousefifty09’ list. The list recognises the 50 students who have contributed the most to student life over the past year. Suraj Gangani who was president of the York Entrepreneurs Society from 2008 to 2009 was recognised for his achievements in enterprise. The article in Nouse said of Gangani; “During his year as President of York Entrepreneurs, Suraj has overseen the most successful York Apprentice ever and raised the profile of the society on campus. Within the society, he is well known for his kindness, warmth and professionalism”
For more information on this and the nousefifty09 click here. 6th June 2009 The Apprentice York 2009 Winner Congratulations to mBezel who have won The Apprentice York 2009 and the £1000 prize money. Commiserations to Vivacity and Calibre who came second and third respectively. The results were extremely close which boiled down to a difference of twelve extra people at The Woodstock Warm Up which swayed the result in mBezel's favour. Congratulations to Anne-Sophie Noten, Michael Batula, Tim Ngwena and Cesca Dessain. Following the raffle draw, congratulations to Daria Pawlowska, holder of the yellow ticket number 215 who has won a £100 voucher for any bar, restaurant or any high-street retailer.

On Friday 1st May 2009, Suraj Gangani, Scott Murphy and Matthew Freckelton, travelled to London to attend the inauguration of the National Consortium of University Entrepreneurs. The event hosted the future potential of the global economy to help and support drive the growth of entrepreneurship across the UK. We are pleased to announce that Matthew has been elected to the position of Regional Chair for the NACUE. This gives the University of York a pivotal role within NACUE guiding and leading the entire North of England's Universities. We wish Matt the best of luck in his new position.
